Mark is the co-inventor of the LifeCode Natural Language Processing (NLP) Engine with two patents on NLP technology for computer-assisted coding (CAC). The LifeCode NLP Engine powers the Optum CAC solution, automating the assignment of ICD-9, ICD-10, current procedural terminology (CPT) and health care common procedure coding system (HCPCS) codes for hospitals and physicians.

• Prior to joining OptumInsight, Mark worked for A-Life Medical as the Vice President of Technology. He led a team of computer scientists, linguists and coding experts in the continuing advancement of A-Life Medical’s CAC technology.
• Mark holds both a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York.
