We're dedicated to making sure Optum PM and Physician EMR helps you meet the government's meaningful-use criteria, so you can qualify for stimulus incentive payments.

Qualification requirements.

Providers who can demonstrate meaningful use of EMRs may qualify to receive either Medicare or Medicaid incentive payments. Providers who qualify for Medicaid incentive payments must waive their rights to receive duplicative Medicare payments and demonstrate that they meet a minimum Medicaid patient caseload. Certain hospital-based physicians (such as anesthesiologists, pathologists or emergency room physicians) are not eligible for Medicare incentive payments.

In order to qualify for incentive payments, you must meet these four criteria:

1. Demonstrate “meaningful use” of a certified EHR technology The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will be defining “meaningful use” in greater detail during 2009.1 And, while the act does not specify what certification will mean, it is believed in the industry that the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) will be the certifying body.
2. Use e-prescribing Your EMR should provide features that enable electronic prescribing.
3. Exchange information electronically At present, we know that this means your EMR system is connected and supports electronic exchange of health information with other health systems.2
4. Submit reports on clinical quality measures Your EMR must be able to perform electronic data interchange of clinical information with applicable networks and report on quality measures.3 Stay tuned for future developments on how this stimulus package will affect the health care industry. Information on this new legislation is coming daily. We will keep you updated as the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) releases updated information related to the EMR incentive.
