
Lisa Chimento
Lisa Chimento is the Senior Vice President and Executive Leader of The Lewin Group, an OptumInsight company. Since joining the firm in 1994, she has assisted state agencies, foundations, health plans, and hospitals and health systems improve performance and navigate government policy. She has worked with more than 25 state purchasers on a range of Medicaid purchasing and performance improvement efforts. She has also assisted health systems and managed care plans and others with strategic and operational issues, focusing on public programs.
In addition to leading The Lewin Group, some of Ms. Chimento’s recent consulting engagements include directing a multi-year federal project on Medicaid care management and performance improvement, and working directly with nearly 20 states on their programs. She also led a project on behalf of the California HealthCare Foundation to develop recommendations to support the mandatory enrollment of persons with disabilities into managed care.
Ms. Chimento has also managed multi-year projects for West Virginia and New York. The project for West Virginia involved the design, implementation and evaluation of its mandatory managed care program for its TANF and SSI Medicaid populations, and the project for New York assisted the New York Department of Health to implement the state’s mandatory 1115 waiver program.
Prior to joining The Lewin Group in 1994, Lisa conducted research and analysis on the organization and delivery of health care at the National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine.
Ms. Chimento has also co-authored publications relating to health care. They include, but are not limited to, “Savings from the Medicare Drug Benefit for Beneficiaries with Common Chronic Conditions,” (co-authored with Allison Sydlaske and John Corea), prepared for the Healthcare Leadership Council, April 2006; “Rate Setting and Actuarial Soundness in Medicaid Managed Care,” (co-authored with Grady Catterall), prepared for the Association for Community Affiliated Plans and the Medicaid Health Plans of America, January 2006; and “Electronic Applications Present Opportunities to Improve Enrollment into New York’s Public Health Insurance Programs,” (co-authored with Anna Theisen-Olson and Maya Bhat), prepared for the United Hospital Fund, November 2004.
Ms. Chimento earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Virginia and a master’s degree in public and private management from Yale University. She serves as the chairperson of the Board of the Northern Virginia Health Foundation.
