Remittance Service implemented at Colorado Otolaryngology Associates, PC
The Colorado Otolaryngology Associates (COA), PC facility was struggling to post payments in a timely fashion. Its manual payment posting process took an experienced billing administrator about 30 minutes per voucher page and a typical voucher received by COA could contain 18–20 pages. As a result, it took approximately six hours per batch to post payments. In addition, explanation of benefits (EOBs) were attached to each appropriate patient record and then tracked to process secondary filings. The manual payment posting process was clearly labor intensive, time consuming, and prone to error. And while the process was not cost effective, administrators at COA were somewhat reluctant to make a change that might disrupt their operations.

CAC Industry Outlook
Transitions are common in the healthcare marketplace today. Encoding of clinical data is a key element of the health information management (HIM) profession. It binds the provision of care to the systems serving both clinical and administrative needs. Coding professionals are experts at adapting to change, since the code sets and coding guidelines require frequent updates to keep pace with the science of medicine. Clinical terminologies and classification systems are an essential and compelling part of an optimal healthcare delivery system. The people who manage and use code sets can expect significant changes ahead, creating new roles and demanding new competencies.
